Such an interesting video! I really love woody notes, especially vetiver and “forest” wood )) It started with all D2 line, also I own lots of CdG scents. But the one and only – it always be Encre Noir (“old” editions like 2008).

Guinea54 says:

Jon Komatsu says:

Excellent topic. Woods, being a base note, tend to be overlooked.

To my mind oud is the current “King” of woody notes, considering its trendiness. And one I don’t mind with my attraction to animalics and darker frags. My only qualm is most oud frags tend to dry down and land on Aroma Chemical Island.

Sandalwood always offers a nice buttery/creamy accord. And ubiquitous cedar, the old standby, ever present and ready to lend a hand, is sorta the Brave Lieutenant of the fragrance world backing things up.

My fave wood, though, is probably pine. And I am so glad you mentioned PF’s Arso, with its combo of smoky pine and creamy cedar, one of my most absolutely adored pine based perfumes alongside Caron’s Yatagan. Great video!

Good vid. Lately I’ve been wearing colgones with MZ-17 and girls seem to be going nuts over it

Cynthia Ava says:

I’m intrigued by wood as a note overall. Funny, I do not own many scents with that note. My favorite in my 20’s was Crabtree and Evelyn Mysore Sandalwood. I had first smelled it while I was in London and I bought it promptly when I returned home. Sadly now, it’s very hard to find and costs more than I’d want to spend on ebay. I think I’d go for a lighter wood note now and if it were more on the “fresh” side with some green notes to it, that would be good. Any suggestions?

Holly Bronwyn says:

My favorite wood ever made is the original (’70s) Crabtree & Evelyn Mysore Sandalwood.
Nothing will ever beat it: I started wearing this when I was 17.
Kind of amazing that at that age I wandered over to the men’s section in a C&E, Mill Valley, CA … and bought it & it alone.
(My mom never taught me to stick to stereotypes.;)
